Tips for finding and wearing a women’s tunic sweater

So, what is a tunic sweater?  Tunics are one of the most versatile pieces you can have in your closet.  These are hip length sweaters that are an in-between length that are shorter than a dress but longer than a top.  You can wear them with anything nowadays.  Tunics can be worn with jeans, shorts, leggings, and slacks.  Try avoid wearing them with a skirt as that is a big mistake.  If you wear a long women’s sweater tunic with a skirt, it could look odd.

When shopping for a tunic sweater, women should keep in mind that they are designed to be loose fitting.  Some tunics even flare out at the hem so don’t think this is a flaw in how it was made, that’s the look and point of a tunic.  A grey tunic sweater (or any other color) should billow at the bottom but not fit too flowy on you.  A tunic sweater for women should also not be clingy.  Cotton tunic sweaters should fit nicely in your neck and chest but shouldn’t look boxy or shapeless at the chest and arms.

A slouchy tunic sweater shouldn’t be too slouchy, it should have an empire waistline.  Tunics with a straight flow don’t have much shape and may not be flattering.  A straight flow tunic may be saved if you add a belt at your waist.  Try one on with a belt and see if that does anything for the shape, if not then put it back on the shelf.

One of the most important thing when wearing a sweater tunic is select the right pants or shorts.  Since tunics are wider at the bottom you don’t want to wear pants or shorts that are too baggy or wide leg.  These are unflattering and look sloppy.   You’ll want to wear leggings, fitted pants, or skinny jeans to help balance the flow.
