Flattering tunic sweaters to fit your body shape

Tunic sweaters are great tops for layering and looking stylish while keeping warm on a cold winter day.  Even when worn with proper skinny jeans, leggings, or tights they can still be unflattering to your body.  The following guide will help you determine how to pull off a stylish tunic sweater to fit your body.

If you have an inverted triangle shape (or the newly defined carrot shape), you have broad shoulders and your body tapers down from there all the way to your legs.  You can pull off wearing a tunic sweater that fits close to your body.  An empire waist has a high seam with the fabric falling delicately.  This will create a sleeker look and looks great any time of the year.  The empire-waist is sophisticated and elegant and very flattering for the inverted triangle body shape.

Next up, if you have a triangle shape you have wider hips and narrow shoulders.  This also describes pear shaped women as well.  With this body shape you can look great in tunic sweaters that have details and fabrics that draw attention to your upper body and away from your hips.  The details can help create a visual illusion that you have an hourglass figure.  Avoid plus size tunic sweaters that cling or sit on your hips, thighs, and butt because that instantly draws attention to those areas.  Instead, you want some that fall away from those areas.  If they look boxy or shapeless, add a belt to get your waistline back.

Hourglass shaped women look great in several styles of women’s long tunic sweaters.  You should avoid detailing or ruffles near your neckline because they can make your upper body look much larger and completely throw off the balance of your body.

Oval shaped women, or apple shapes, should opt for a black tunic sweater (or other neutral color) with v necklines or scoop necks.  This is because they can make your neck appear longer and make you look taller overall.  Empire-waist tunic sweaters work well with apple shaped women as well.
