What are the rules of wearing a tunic?

The great answer is there aren’t any!  Tunic tops for women are so versatile you can wear them for any occasion.  The only rule you should follow is to find one that fits your figure.  Women come in all shapes and sizes and so do tunics.

The following common sense rules about wearing tunics should be adhered to if you want to look your best.  Otherwise just grab whatever is on the rack in your size and call it a day but don’t say I didn’t warn you!

First, tunics typically have a hemline that comes down to your waist or mid-thigh.  This being said pair a loose fitting tunic with skinny jeans or leggings.  Straight or baggy cut pants will just make the entire look seem sloppy and lazy.  If you have a more form fitting tunic you can get away with boot cut jeans.  It’s all about proportions and balancing out your body.
Next, shorts are fine with a tunic as long as they aren’t so short you can’t see them but if they are then simply tuck the front into the shorts and your problem is solved.  You don’t want to wear a tunic that’s longer than your shorts otherwise it looks like you’re wearing just the tunic without anything underneath.

A belt is a classic accessory with a tunic.  Belts help cinch the waist and define your waistline.  A necklace with a belt is a bit overboard however; but you can add a great pair of earrings and still look good.

If you have a super flowy plus size tunic you can wrangle the extra material in with a jacket or belt.  The one thing fashion police will definitely bust you on is a tunic with a skirt.  They never look good so just don’t do it!  This is because the flowy characteristic that makes a tunic a tunic is ruined with a skirt. They just don’t look right, almost like you’re trying to wear two skirts, one up top and one down below.  It’s not cute and it’s not flattering.
