Bringing loose powder is
a big no-no when you are travelling. You might end up having messy pouch
because of the makeup powder. Well that was before they discovered pressed powder and loose powder compacts.
Powder compact also known as powder box and powder case is a makeup product. It is a small round or square
container that is made of metal. It contains a mirror, pressed or loose face powder with a gauze sifter and a powder puff. If you want full coverage you can also bring a small
fluffy powder brush with you.
The
history of powder compacts started way back on the early 1900’s. That time pale and white makeup powder was so popular That
time it had not yet accepted in the society so those who use it kept it hidden
with their jewelries. It was in 1908
when Sears made an advertisement about it saying that it is too small to fit in
a pocketbook, so back then when you say
compact, it is a case made of metal for
you to keep your face powder makeup.
Since
then compact powder had been that carried by women in a trendy way. In fact
companies like Tiffany and Cartier created a case with compartments, that can
store several items in a small space, these includes powder compact,
lipstick, watch, reading glasses, or keys. And on the 1930’s, compacts were updated
regularly to match fashion trends. It eventually became a popular souvenir and
picked as mementos for holidays spent abroad.
Despite
the widespread production of this makeup powder up to the 1960s, the
popularity started to fade with the production of plastic case that can easily
be discarded after the powder ran out. Deirdre
Clemente who suggested on changing make-up trends from pale and powdered complexion to a more
natural look, this contributed to the decrease of their popularity.
Nowadays, compact powders are mostly seen in a plastic case are so popular. Though there
are still compacts that can give you pale and powdered makeup, most compacts
contain tinted powders.
